Former IGP Emerges as SDP Governorship Candidate In Nasarawa

A former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Nasarawa State ahead of the 2027 general election.

Adamu emerged during the party’s special delegates congress held in Lafia to replace Musa Angba, who withdrew from the Governorship race.

Announcing the result, Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Joseph Achile said Adamu, who was the sole candidate, secured 28,637 votes from delegates across the 13 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.

Achile declared Adamu the winner and returned him as the SDP Governorship flag-bearer for the 2027 election.

“Having met the requirements of the party constitution and scored the highest number of votes, I hereby declare Adamu as the SDP governorship candidate for Nasarawa State,” he said.

In his acceptance speech, the former IGP thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed in him, promising to work tirelessly to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people.

Adamu said; “his administration, if elected, would prioritise basic infrastructure and social services across the state.”

He also pledged to run an inclusive government focused on security, education, agriculture and job creation.

Nasarawa State has great potential. My administration will prioritise the welfare of our people, strengthen security, and ensure that the resources of the state are used for the benefit of all,” Adamu said.

He urged party members to remain united ahead of the 2027 polls, saying the SDP was poised to provide credible alternative leadership in the state.

Also speaking, the SDP National Chairman, Prof. Sadiq Abubakar-Gombe congratulated the people of Nasarawa State on the emergence of Adamu as the party’s governorship candidate.

Abubakar-Gombe described Adamu as a disciplined and experienced public servant who served the Nigerian Police with integrity, commitment to the rule of law and dedication.

He urged the people of Nasarawa State to vote for the SDP candidate in the 2027 election, promising that the party would provide transformative and inclusive leadership.

The National Chairman also called on Nigerians to support the party’s presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo, and other SDP candidates in the 2027 general election.
