Promoted side, Doma United, continued their return to the EUROMATCH-Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) with a second win in their second game against newcomers Inter Lagos at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos on Saturday.
The opening moments of the game produced end-to-end flow with Doma United striker Seye Adegbite and Kevwe Iyede of Inter Lagos coming close to opening the scoring.
On 22 minutes, Adegbite bundled the ball into the net past Inter Lagos goalkeeper Favour Bala but his effort was ruled out for offside positioning.
Moments later, Doma United experienced goalkeeper Ibrahim Pius denied Kamaldeen Lawal from putting the home side ahead as both sides ended the first half without scoring.
Doma United head coach, Deji Ayeni switched things up on the hour mark when he sent on talented midfielder Uche Onwuansanya for Isa Muhammed who suffered a knock.
In the 71st minute, Doma United went in front through Rilwan Sadiq. The striker got himself in a good position to head home the winner off Haruna Abutu’s long measured throw-in.
The Savannah Tigers almost made it two-nil inside the final 10 minutes when Abutu’s effort missed target narrowly to the relief of the home team’s bench.
Five minutes to time, Inter Lagos thought they got themselves an equalizer but it was ruled out for offside as Doma United held on for a successive win.
Ayeni’s men have now began life in the top division with two wins in two matches and both against Lagos clubs, Sporting Lagos and Inter Lagos, which takes to the top of the standings until Sunday’s matches of the second matchweek.
Doma United will play hosts to Enyimba at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe while Inter Lagos play in another home game against Sporting Lagos in a city derby.
