Nigeria’s electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC is set to introduce a real time tracker to monitor its preparations ahead of the 2027 general election.
The Commission’s Chairman, Professor Samuel Amupitan made this known on Monday in Lagos at a strategic Workshop for its Administrative Secretaries.
Amupitan said that the workshop is expected to produce a standard Excel-based operational tracker for Administrative Secretaries which will be connected to INEC’s Election Monitoring and Support Centre dashboard and the Election Project Plan.
He said the Commission had no previous uniform system for monitoring the operational responsibilities for its Administrative Secretaries.
Amupitan further explained that the new tracker would give Resident Electoral Commissioners, Supervisory National Commissioners, the Secretary to the Commission and the headquarters instant information on the distribution of election materials, training of ad-hoc staff and the level of preparedness in each State.
“This will enable us to move from reactive response to pro-active management,” he said.
Amupitan said the initiative comes as the National Voters’ register nears its 100million voters’ mark.

The Strategic Workshop will also focus on other major areas including Continuous Voters Registration, logistics and materials management, electoral technology, optimisation of ad-hoc staff and financial compliance.
The INEC Chairman said that the Commission plans to leverage on the successes and lessons learned from recent off-cycle elections to achieve the same level of efficiency and success across the country during the upcoming general election scheduled to commence in January, 2027.
