The Ogun State Police Command has deployed its School Protection Squad across the state to safeguard pupils, teachers, and school communities as academic activities resume.
The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Oluseyi Babaseyi, in a statement, explained that the move was necessary as schools in the state resume a new academic session on Monday, 24th September, 2026, following the summer break.
Babaseyi disclosed that the deployment is part of the proactive, preventive and community-oriented policing strategy of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, aimed at preventing security threats and ensuring a safe environment for learning.
The PPRO explained that the School Protection Squad is expected to increase police visibility around schools, protect pupils and school personnel, secure educational facilities, gather actionable intelligence and respond swiftly to emerging security threats.

He disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, recently received an executive delegation of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) Safe School Club, led by its State Chairman, Abdullahi Lawal, at the Command Headquarters in Abeokuta, the state capital.
Babaseyi stated that the meeting focused on strengthening collaboration among the police, school authorities, parents, students and community stakeholders to identify, report and prevent security threats within schools.
He said Ojajuni, during the meeting, commended the initiative and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to the partnership while directing members of the School Protection Squad to remain vigilant and maintain close engagement with school communities.
The Commissioner urged school proprietors, administrators, teachers, parents, students and members of the public to report suspicious persons, vehicles, or activities around schools.
The PPRO noted that the Command will continue to emphasise its “See Something, Say Something” campaign, saying early reporting of suspicious activities could help prevent security incidents and protect lives.
He revealed that for school-related emergencies, residents can contact the Ogun State Police Command through the Gateway Shield Emergency Line: 08000009111.
Babaseyi assured residents that the School Protection Squad, in partnership with the PCRC and other stakeholders, would continue to protect schools, prevent threats and respond swiftly to emergencies across the state.
Voice of Nigeria reports that the development comes as Ogun State continues to implement education reforms aimed at improving access to quality education, upgrading school infrastructure, strengthening teaching and learning, and creating safer and more conducive environments for children.
The reforms are part of the state’s broader human-capital development agenda, recognising education as a key driver of economic growth and sustainable development.
