About 100 pupils of the LEA Primary School, City Gate, Durumi 2, Abuja, have received school bags and educational materials from the Wisewisdom Charity Foundation.
The donation, made on Thursday under the theme “Building Tomorrow Today: One Bag, One Child,” was aimed at supporting pupils from underserved communities and improving their access to essential learning materials.
Speaking at the event, the convener of the foundation, Dr. Peter Olumuji, said providing children with basic educational resources was important to their academic development and inclusion.
Olumuji said the initiative was consistent with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal Four on Quality Education, Goal 10 on Reduced Inequalities, and Goal 17 on Partnerships for the Goals.
The event was attended by officials of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and other stakeholders.
The Director of the FCT Department of Reforms Coordination and Service Improvement, Dr Jumai Ahmadu, said there was a need for greater support for children from low-income families to ensure equitable access to basic education.
Ahmadu said initiatives that addressed barriers to education could contribute to better learning opportunities for children in underserved communities.
Also speaking, the Head of Enforcement, FCT Social Development Secretariat, Mrs Ukachi Adebayo, commended the foundation for supporting pupils with essential educational materials.
She said continued collaboration among government agencies, organisations and other stakeholders was necessary to address challenges affecting vulnerable children.
The Headmistress of the school, Mrs Helen Adejare, expressed appreciation for the donation and called on individuals, organisations and corporate bodies to support efforts to improve learning conditions in schools.
The foundation said the initiative formed part of its efforts to support children in underserved communities through access to educational resources.
