The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, has described the delivery of United States military equipment to the Nigerian Air Force as another demonstration of the expanding security partnership between both countries, particularly in efforts to counter terrorism and other security threats in the region.
Mr Onanuga disclosed this in a post on his official X handle, @aonanuga1956, on Thursday evening, citing information released by the United States Africa Command, AFRICOM.
He said a United States Air Force C-17 aircraft delivered the military equipment last weekend under a foreign military sales agreement between Nigeria and the United States.

According to the Presidential Adviser, the delivery underscores the increasing defence and security cooperation between both countries.
“Partnership in action,” AFRICOM said, noting that the equipment formed part of a foreign military sales agreement designed to further strengthen the U.S.-Nigeria defence partnership.

AFRICOM also confirmed that the equipment was delivered to the Nigerian Air Force in Lagos and Kainji, adding that United States military support to the Armed Forces of Nigeria is provided at the invitation of the Nigerian government and with respect for the country’s sovereignty.
The latest delivery follows recent military cooperation between both countries. In August, United States and Nigerian forces conducted unmanned aerial system training in Bauchi, involving training, advisory support, intelligence sharing and professional exchanges aimed at improving operational readiness and interoperability.
Nigeria and the United States have also intensified security cooperation in 2026, particularly in counterterrorism, defence collaboration and intelligence sharing. In May, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu held high-level talks in Washington with senior U.S. officials on strengthening the partnership, while Nigerian and U.S. forces subsequently carried out a coordinated operation against Islamic State elements in the Lake Chad Basin.
