President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has confirmed the full fulfilment of the Federal Government’s promised rewards to Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, in recognition of their outstanding sporting achievement.
President Tinubu announced this in a post on his official X handle, @OfficialABAT, confirming that each D’Tigress player has received the naira equivalent of 100,000 dollars, while each official has received the equivalent of 50,000 dollars.
The President highlighted that the development marks the first time presidential sporting rewards of such magnitude have been fully fulfilled by the Federal Government within one year.

The payments complete the package of rewards earlier promised the team, which also includes national honours and three-bedroom houses in Abuja.
President Tinubu noted that the implementation required compliance with established legal and administrative procedures, emphasising that although the process took time, his administration remained committed to honouring its pledge.
“For the first time, a Federal Government has fulfilled this scale of presidential sporting rewards in full within one year. We had to follow the processes required by law and ensure that every commitment was properly implemented. That took time, but a promise made must be a promise kept.

The President also disclosed that the Federal Government is concluding outstanding cash rewards for the Super Falcons.
He said players and officials of the national women’s football team have already received title documents for their allocated houses as well as certificates of National Honours.
“The Super Falcons players and officials have already received the title documents to their house allocations and National Honours certificates. Likewise, the promise of houses and national honours I made to Super Eagles players has since been redeemed.” He said.
President Tinubu added that the houses and national honours promised members of the Super Eagles have also been redeemed.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to recognising sporting excellence, the President said Nigerian athletes who bring honour to the country deserve more than applause and should be assured that the nation will fulfil its commitments to them.
“Our athletes who bring honour to Nigeria deserve more than applause. They deserve a country that keeps its word,” he said.
President Tinubu urged Nigerian athletes to continue making the country proud, assuring them of the gratitude and recognition of the nation.
He further congratulated the athletes, declaring that Nigeria remains proud of their achievements.
