The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission has commiserated with the government and people of Cabo Verde over a tragic road accident that claimed 25 lives on September 5, 2026, at Campanas de Cima on Fogo Island.
The victims were mostly children and adolescents.
In a statement, ECOWAS Commission President, General Birame Diop, expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, as well as the government and people of Cabo Verde, over the tragic incident.
The Commission said It shares in the grief of the Cabo Verdean people during this difficult period and prayed for strength and comfort for the bereaved families.
The ECOWAS Commission said it stands in solidarity with the Government and People of the Republic of Cabo Verde during this difficult moment and Reaffirms its unwavering support for the victims, their families, and all those mourning this devastating loss.
