The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has called on women across the South-East to rally behind President Bola Tinubu and support his re-election bid in the 2027 general election.
Sulaiman-Ibrahim made the call in Owerri, Imo State, while addressing a large gathering of women at the flag-off of the distribution of empowerment items to 500 women in each of the five South-East states.
The initiative, organised by the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) in collaboration with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), covers Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo states.

The Minister, who was part of the entourage of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, commended the First Lady for her interventions targeting women, children and vulnerable Nigerians, particularly at the grassroots.
“Your Excellency, the First Lady, the Mother of the Nation, thank you for all you do for us here at the grassroots, for our women, our children, with Mr President’s family agenda, and for the vulnerable population,” she said.
She said the large turnout demonstrated the reliability and mobilisation strength of Nigerian women, particularly when their support was needed.
“I am so excited to see this stadium filled with women. Everybody knows that when you need anyone to show up for you, when you need someone to be reliable, women will never fail you. Nigerian women will never fail you,” she said.
Sulaiman-Ibrahim noted that women constitute a significant force in agriculture, the care economy and political participation, stressing that their influence would also be critical during elections.
“Nigerian women, do you agree? Whether it is on the farm, Nigerian women are 70 per cent; whether it is the care economy, Nigerian women are 70 per cent; whether it is the stadium, Nigerian women will show up and fill it; and when it is time to vote and secure our votes, Nigerian women will show up,” she said.
She therefore urged the women to reciprocate the support and interventions of the Tinubu administration by backing the President for another term in office.
“Nigerian women, it is time to say thank you. Come 2027, Nigerian women, we are confident that we have to support Mr President to continue because never in the history of Nigeria have we seen a president that is a HeForShe,” she said.
The empowerment programme is designed to provide economic support and opportunities to women across the five South-East states.
