Nigeria’s First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, has appealed to traditional rulers in Anambra State to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and give it another chance at the next election, while praising Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his administration’s development efforts across the state.
Mrs. Tinubu made the appeal during a visit to the Anambra State Traditional Rulers’ Council at the Light House in Awka, where she was received by Governor Soludo and members of the council.
Addressing the traditional rulers, the First Lady described traditional institutions as foundational custodians of the land and urged young Nigerians to respect traditional authority, culture and heritage.
“Young people should know that there are people in charge of the land where they live,” she said, stressing the enduring role of traditional leadership in Nigerian society.
Mrs. Tinubu, who spoke about her longstanding ties to Anambra, recalled visiting the state as a young girl. She also referenced her family’s connection to the area, noting that her sister was married to the late traditional ruler of Isuaniocha.
She expressed appreciation to the traditional rulers for conferring traditional titles on President Tinubu during an earlier visit to the state.
Turning to national issues, the First Lady commended the traditional rulers for their support for the Federal Government and defended the administration’s economic reforms, particularly the removal of the petrol subsidy.
She described the decision to end the subsidy as a necessary and courageous step taken by President Tinubu from the beginning of his administration.
Mrs. Tinubu also praised Governor Soludo for the pace of development in Anambra, particularly in infrastructure and public administration.
“What is happening in Anambra is wonderful work,” she said, commending the governor’s efforts to transform the state.
The First Lady subsequently appealed to the traditional rulers and other stakeholders for continued support for the administration as the country approaches another political cycle.
“When our turn comes, give us a second chance too,” she said, adding that President Tinubu believes in their capacity to support his administration.
Her visit to the traditional rulers was part of her engagement in Anambra State, where she met with state leaders and stakeholders and highlighted the role of traditional institutions in preserving Nigeria’s cultural heritage and supporting governance.
