Former PDP National Chairman Bamanga Tukur Dies at 90

Former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, has died at the age of 90.

Tukur died on Saturday at his Abuja residence, three days before his 91st birthday.

The former governor of Gongola State and one-time Minister of Industries died at about noon, according to a statement released by his former media aide, Oliver Okpala, with the approval of his children, Awwal Tukur and Lami Tukur.

His remains are expected to be transported to Adamawa for burial in line with Islamic traditions.

Tukur, who was born on September 15, 1935, held several prominent positions in Nigeria’s political and public service sectors, including governor of the former Gongola State and PDP National Chairman.

His son, Awwal Tukur, said the family had accepted his death as the will of Allah, adding that they would draw comfort from his life, values and enduring legacy.
