Vice President Kashim Shettima is set to lead a high-profile delegation of political and business leaders to Ilorin on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, for the historic turbaning of Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
The ceremony, scheduled for 1:00 PM at the newly renovated Emir’s Palace, will see His Royal Highness, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, officially confer the title of Sardauna, or Defence Minister of Ilorin Emirate, on Governor AbdulRazaq.
AbdulRazaq becomes the first individual to hold this traditional title in the emirate’s history, an honour in recognition of his governance and community development initiatives since the Emir’s initial announcement in August 2024.

Alongside the traditional rites, Vice President Shettima will inaugurate two major state infrastructure projects aimed at boosting the local economy and administrative capacity.
The delegation will first commission the Kwara Garment Factory, designed as one of West Africa’s largest and most advanced apparel manufacturing plants.
According to Akeem Abdullateef, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Communications, the facility is projected to create over 4,000 jobs at full capacity, with more than 500 workers already employed for the initial takeoff phase to empower youth and drive economic development.
Following the factory launch, the Vice President is billed to unveil the new state-of-the-art KWIRS Revenue House.
The multi-storey administrative complex was constructed to centralise operations for the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service, strengthening overall tax administration and improving fiscal efficiency across the state. With a rich guest list featuring state governors, federal ministers, senators, ambassadors, and captains of industry from across the African continent, the double-barreled event marks a significant milestone in Kwara State’s cultural and socioeconomic landscape.
