Israel and Morocco have agreed to upgrade their diplomatic relations, including opening embassies and appointing ambassadors.
According to the Israeli government, the agreement was reached during a tripartite meeting in New York involving Israeli Foreign Minister, Gideon Saar, Moroccan Foreign Minister, Nasser Bourita and U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Mike Waltz.
The Israeli government said in a statement posted on its official Arabic-language account on X that the officials reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.
The planned measures include upgrading the two countries’ diplomatic missions to embassy level and appointing ambassadors.

The officials also agreed to increase air connectivity between Israel and Morocco and work towards finalising agreements to promote mutual investment, as well as economic and trade relations.
Morocco was among four Arab countries, alongside the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Sudan, that moved to normalise relations with Israel in 2020 under U.S.-brokered agreements.
Israel also maintains peace treaties with Egypt and Jordan.
The normalisation agreements have raised concerns among Palestinians about the future of a long-standing pan-Arab position, calling for an Israeli withdrawal from occupied territories and recognition of Palestinian statehood in exchange for normal relations with Arab countries.
