Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, will not be available for Nigeria’s upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches, as his recovery from a muscle strain has been slower than expected.
The Galatasaray striker was included in Nigeria’s squad after both the Turkish club and the Super Eagles’ technical crew expressed optimism that he would recover in time to feature against Trabzonspor and be ready for the international window.
However, his absence from the match against Trabzonspor confirms Galatasaray’s earlier communication to Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, that the forward is still recovering from the injury and will not be fit for Nigeria’s upcoming fixtures.
Meanwhile, Ademola Lookman said the Super Eagles are determined to begin their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with victories over Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau despite expecting difficult encounters.
