A stakeholder has donated N5 million to families affected by flooding in Amaegbu community, Akaeze, Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, as calls intensify for urgent assistance to displaced residents.
The donation was made when the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ebonyi State, Dr Ifeanyi Odii, visited the flood-affected community, where homes, farmlands, crops and personal belongings were destroyed by the disaster.
The flood submerged large portions of farmland and displaced several families, leaving many residents without shelter and means of livelihood.
The affected residents appealed to the Ebonyi State Government and relevant agencies to urgently intervene, stressing that the disaster had left many families helpless.
During the visit, Dr Odii announced the N5 million donation to cushion the impact of the disaster on affected families.
Odii urged the beneficiaries to use the assistance judiciously and promised to engage relevant agencies of the state and Nigerian governments to seek further support for the residents.
The PDP Chairman in Ivo Local Government Area, Mr Johnson Dike, appealed to the victims to remain calm, saying efforts would continue to secure relief for the affected families.
The residents reiterated their appeal for urgent government intervention, particularly the provision of shelter, relief materials and support to restore their sources of livelihood.
