The Kogi State Government says it is exploring digital technology, artificial intelligence (AI) and investment opportunities to transform the state’s tourism sector and unlock the potential of its rich cultural and historical assets.
The Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mrs Fatima Momoh, disclosed this in Lokoja at an event organised to commemorate the 2026 World Tourism Day.
Momoh said the state was exploring innovative approaches to reposition tourism as a major contributor to economic development, employment generation and sustainable growth.

She noted that Kogi was endowed with diverse cultural and historical attractions capable of attracting visitors, generating revenue and creating economic opportunities for residents.
According to her, the integration of digital technology and AI into the tourism sector would provide new ways of showcasing the state’s attractions, improving access to tourism products and services, and enhancing visitors’ experiences.
She said investment in technology and tourism infrastructure would also help to create a more vibrant tourism ecosystem and encourage greater private-sector participation in the sector.
World Tourism Day is celebrated annually on Sept. 27 to highlight the importance of tourism and its contribution to economic development, cultural exchange, employment and sustainable development.
The 2026 celebration focuses on the role of digital innovation and artificial intelligence in reshaping tourism and improving access to tourism products and services.
The theme underscores the growing importance of technology in promoting destinations, connecting tourists with tourism services and creating new opportunities across the tourism value chain.
According to the commissioner, the adoption of digital solutions presents an opportunity to bring greater visibility to Kogi’s cultural and historical heritage while positioning the sector to contribute more significantly to the state’s economy.
The government’s focus on technology, AI and investment is expected to support efforts to modernise the sector, promote Kogi’s tourism assets and create opportunities for sustainable growth.
