A Judge of the High Court of Osun State, Justice Matthias Agboola, has stressed the importance of financial literacy, investment knowledge and real estate education in preparing young people for responsible wealth creation.
Agboola made the call in Ibadan, Oyo State, while delivering the keynote lecture at activities marking the 60th anniversary of the Alumni Association of Holy Trinity Grammar School (HTGS), Ibadan.
The Guest Lecturer said the alumni association should complement infrastructure development with efforts to build people capable of managing resources responsibly and ethically.
Agboola said the association’s responsibility should extend beyond providing physical infrastructure.
“It is not enough to build structures; we must build people who can manage and grow wealth ethically,” he said.
The National President of the HTGS Old Students’ Association, Adeshina Adegoke, urged students, school authorities, alumni and parents to collaborate in identifying needs and ensuring proper execution and maintenance of projects.
Adegoke called for a shift from infrastructure development driven by quantity to greater emphasis on quality, sustainability and human capital development.
“Future interventions in the school should be guided by proper planning, quality control and sustainability. For years, we have focused on infrastructure development. Now it is time for quality to be considered,” he said.
He also urged members to work together to identify the school’s most pressing needs and ensure that projects were properly executed.
“We must avoid white elephant projects. This is the time to change our thinking. Let us build what we can maintain,” Adegoke said.
The National President also called for adherence to ethical standards in the association’s activities, saying integrity should remain central to its development efforts.
He disclosed that the association’s immediate priorities include renovating or completing the principal’s lodge to accommodate male teachers and youth corps members, constructing a school hall, improving security and protecting the school’s investments.
The anniversary celebration featured a novelty football match, free medical check-ups for interested members and a special award presentation to individuals who have contributed significantly to the growth and development of the school.
Among those recognised was the late Pa Titus Oyewusi, founder of Holy Trinity Grammar School, whose contribution to the establishment and growth of the institution was acknowledged by the alumni.
The celebration provided an opportunity for former students to reflect on the association’s six-decade journey while reaffirming their commitment to infrastructure development, human capital, sustainability and ethical leadership.
