The Nigerian Army has commissioned a solar-powered, fully furnished 30-seater computer laboratory with high-speed internet access at Agunbiade Victory High School, Magbon, Abeokuta, Ogun State, under the Chief of Army Staff Special Intervention Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) Project.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, represented by the General Officer Commanding 81 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Adebayo Abdulrahman Babalola, said the intervention would expand access to digital learning resources for students of the school and beneficiaries across Magbon and adjoining communities.
A statement by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 81 Division, Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel Iweha Ikedichi, said the COAS made the remarks during the commissioning of the facility on September 29, 2026.

Lieutenant General Shaibu described the project as timely and consequential, noting that the facility would provide a functional environment for teaching, learning, research and innovation while improving computer literacy and digital skills among beneficiaries.
The COAS said the impact of the intervention should extend beyond the physical transformation of the facility by promoting knowledge sharing, creating opportunities and contributing to a more informed, productive and technologically empowered community.
He urged the people of Magbon, school management and other beneficiaries to take collective ownership of the facility and ensure its protection, proper use and preservation for future generations. He also called for suitable arrangements for routine maintenance, security and continued functionality.
The project benefactor, Major General Ismail Dapo Oloyede, expressed gratitude to God and the Chief of Army Staff for supporting his longstanding desire to give back to his alma mater. He recalled the role the school played in providing the guidance and discipline that contributed to his development and expressed hope that the facility would promote learning, innovation, creativity and development among students.
The Chief of Civil-Military Affairs (Army), Major General Mohammed Etsu IndagI, said the intervention reflected the Nigerian Army’s efforts to strengthen its connection with host communities. He explained that the COAS CIMIC Special Intervention Project is designed to honour senior military officers, usually of the rank of Major General, in recognition of their service to the nation and the communities from which they originated.
He said projects implemented under the scheme include interventions in healthcare, potable water provision, school construction and renovation, roads and bridges.
The newly commissioned laboratory is equipped with 30 computers, solar power and high-speed internet, providing students with opportunities to develop computer skills, access digital educational resources, conduct research and build technological competence. The solar power system is also intended to provide a dependable electricity supply while promoting the adoption of renewable energy.
The Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Professor Abayomi Arigbabu, commended corporate organisations, individuals and old students for supporting efforts to revitalise education across the state. He described the provision of computers, solar power and internet facilities as a deliberate effort to ensure that the school remains connected to evolving educational and technological opportunities.
The commissioning was attended by serving and retired senior military officers, officials of the Ogun State Ministry of Education, traditional rulers, members of the Old Students Association, as well as staff and students of the school.
The event featured goodwill messages, cultural displays by students, commissioning and unveiling of a commemorative plaque, and group photographs.
