The Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Oyo State Chapter, has presented empowerment items to wives of serving police officers and members of Late Police Officers Wives Association (LAPOWA), in a renewed effort to strengthen economic capacity, promote self-reliance and improve the welfare of police families.

The programme featured the distribution of 112 items and forms of support comprising 10 freezers, 10 sewing machines, five grinding machines, 20 gas cylinders, 15 dryers/straighteners and 52 bags of rice, in addition to cash assistance provided to 20 members to support their businesses and livelihoods.

The wife of the Oyo State Commissioner of Police and Chairperson, POWA Oyo State Chapter, Bukola Abimbola, expressed profound appreciation to the National Chairperson of POWA, Mutiat Disu, for her continued support, encouragement and commitment towards ensuring the success of the empowerment programme.

She acknowledged that the support and leadership provided by the National Chairperson contributed significantly to making the initiative possible.

Mrs Abimbola said the empowerment was designed to provide beneficiaries with practical means of improving their businesses, increasing their sources of income and contributing meaningfully to the welfare and economic stability of their families.

She stressed that supporting police families remains an important aspect of strengthening the home front and promoting the well-being of police personnel.

Mrs Abimbola noted that the initiative was in furtherance of the welfare-oriented vision of the Inspector-General of Police, which places emphasis on the welfare of serving police personnel, their families and the broader police community.

She disclosed that through the leadership of Mrs Disu at the national level, POWA in Oyo State continues to translate the vision into practical interventions that directly benefit police families.

The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Ayodeji Abimbola, encouraged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items and financial support provided, urging them to channel the empowerment towards strengthening their businesses and improving the welfare of their families.

He noted that a stronger family support system contributes to improved morale, welfare and effective service delivery within the Police.

The beneficiaries expressed profound gratitude to the leadership of POWA, particularly Mrs Disu and Mrs Abimbola, describing the empowerment as a timely and valuable intervention that would assist them in improving their livelihoods, strengthening their businesses and supporting their families.

They said the programme represented another significant step by POWA Oyo State Chapter towards empowering wives of serving police officers and members of LAPOWA, strengthening police families, and complementing ongoing efforts aimed at improving the welfare, morale and effectiveness of personnel of the Oyo State Police Command.

The event was further strengthened by the presence of representatives of wives’ associations from other security and law enforcement agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Customs and the Nigeria Immigration Service, underscoring the spirit of unity, collaboration and mutual support among sister agencies.
