Africa’s wealthiest individual, Aliko Dangote, has described Grammy winner Burna Boy and his peers in the creative industry as worthy representatives of Nigeria on the world stage.
Speaking during a media briefing, Dangote shared an experience from his maiden trip to Grenada to illustrate the global influence of Nigerian music.
He recalled that the first advertisement hoarding he noticed upon arriving on the Caribbean island displayed the Afrobeats star, an encounter that underscored how far Nigerian music has travelled internationally.

“The first time I went to Grenada, the first billboard that I saw was Burna Boy. These are our ambassadors, and this is what we need to be talking about. We should not be talking about somebody in Nigeria who was caught with drugs elsewhere,” he stated.
Dangote noted that the country should give more prominence to talented citizens who are enhancing Nigeria’s image abroad, rather than focusing on individuals linked to negative reports.
Burna Boy was recently included by Forbes among 15 African Icons, a list that also featured Aliko Dangote, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and Mo Abudu.
The artiste was recognised for his role in projecting African music and culture to a global audience.
