The Nigerian Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, through its Department of Quality Assurance (DQA) of the Education Secretariat has called on principals of schools to ensure proper monitoring of staff and students to comply with COVID-19 safety protocols

The Acting Director of the Department, Mrs Magdalene Uzoanya, who made the call during the inspection of schools, following the recent resumption of academic activities, noted that the reality of COVID-19 has further made monitoring and inspection essential tools to improve standards in all schools operating in the FCT.

The Director and her team who visited both public and private schools, within the FCT, reiterated the readiness and commitment of the experienced officers to continue to conduct regular monitoring and inspection visits to schools and strategise on creating a more holistic learning environment.

According to her, school authorities have a great role to play, in order to increase their awareness of the global pandemic through posters and banners conspicuously posted at strategic places to serve as constant reminders to obey the safety.

The director, however, recalled that its two zones of Abaji and Municipal had a week before school resumption embarked on pre-school monitoring and inspection to assess their readiness to resume schools and make teaching and learning process impactful in the new session.

She also revealed that the department is expanding its monitoring instruments on a daily basis, to adequately cover all areas, so that all noticeable gaps are closed, especially in the wake of the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic.
