The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, has announced that the newly commissioned Mabushi Bus Terminal will not be managed by the FCTA’s Transport Secretariat, but will instead be concession to private operators for efficient, round-the-clock operations.

Wike disclosed this during the official commissioning ceremony of the ultra-modern terminal on Tuesday, June 17, 2025. The event was graced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, alongside other top government functionaries.

Speaking at the commissioning, the Minister stated that, “This terminal will not be operated by the Transport Secretariat,” Wike declared.

We will concession it to private operators who will run it efficiently.

The terminal will operate 24 hours a day, providing commuters with a safe and comfortable space to wait for their buses. There will be amenities such as food courts, restrooms, and entertainment facilities.”

The Minister emphasized that the terminal was conceived not merely as a transport hub, but as a solution to longstanding security and infrastructural challenges in the capital city.

The real essence of this project is to enhance security by reducing the number of unauthorized vehicles on the road,” he explained.

We are trying to eliminate the ‘one chance’ syndrome where commuters are vulnerable to attacks by unknown drivers.

With this terminal, commuters will know the drivers and the vehicles they are boarding, making their journeys safer“, he added.

Wike also addressed the issue of road congestion and indiscriminate parking that have long plagued Abuja. He further explained that, “This terminal will provide a safe and organized space for vehicles to park, reducing congestion on the roads,” he said.

He lamented the absence of such infrastructure in the past, stating, “It is unfortunate that a city like Abuja has never had a bus terminal before.

But we thank God that today, our prayers have been answered.”

The Mabushi terminal is one of three such projects being undertaken by the FCT Administration. According to Wike, the Kugbo terminal is ready and scheduled for commissioning next week, while the Central Business District terminal is expected to be completed before the end of the year.

He also revealed that new terminals would be constructed this year in Wuye, Bwari, and Kuje as part of broader efforts to modernize urban mobility in the capital.

Wike used the opportunity to thank President Tinubu for his unwavering support and the National Assembly for approving the necessary resources to actualize the landmark project.

Thank you, Mr. President, for your support in making this project a reality,”he said, before formally inviting the President to commission the terminal and declare it open for operations. The Mabushi Bus Terminal, constructed by Planet Projects, features world-class infrastructure including designated boarding points, passenger waiting areas, commercial outlets, and security installations.

The commissioning signals a new era in public transportation for Abuja, aligning with the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda to provide safer, smarter, and people-centered services
