Abuja Women Rally Unveils Charter, Urges Inclusive Governance

Glory Ohagwu, Abuja

Nigeria’s Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development has hosted the “Power of 10 Million Women Mega Empowerment and Rally 2026” to consolidate a nationwide movement aimed at advancing women’s political inclusion, economic empowerment, and social protection through structured policy engagement.

Addressing the Mega Rally held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, with women from across the federation in attendance, the Minister positioned the rally as a decisive moment of national alignment, stating:

“Today, we do not gather as fragmented voices but as one united movement shaped by geography, experience, and destiny.”

She underscored the strategic shift from participation to influence, affirming the centrality of women in governance and development outcomes:

“Nigerian women are not spectators in the democratic journey of our nation. We are builders, drivers, and partners in progress.”

The Minister linked the initiative to reforms under the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, highlighting policy recalibration and targeted interventions designed to address gaps affecting women, children, and vulnerable groups. She emphasised measurable governance outcomes, declaring:

“This is what Renewed Hope means in practice: responsive governance, adaptive policy frameworks, and a deliberate commitment to ensuring that no woman, no child, and no vulnerable citizen is left behind.”

A key milestone of the event was the formal presentation of the Women’s Charter for National Development, positioned as a policy instrument to guide inclusive governance and institutional accountability to the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

The Minister described the Charter as a binding national framework, stating:“This Charter represents the collective voice, aspirations, and strategic expectations of Nigerian women.”

The Charter articulates priority areas including increased political representation, dedicated financing mechanisms, expanded access to economic opportunities, strengthened family systems, and enhanced child welfare protections. It further aligns with ongoing social investment programmes and empowerment pipelines designed to scale impact at the community level.

Reinforcing implementation focus, the Minister highlighted the operational intent of the rally as both a mobilisation and delivery mechanism:

“This historic rally is both a platform and a pipeline, a platform for unity and voice, and a pipeline for tangible empowerment.”

Stakeholder support from state governments, development partners, and advocacy groups was acknowledged as critical to nationwide reach and sustainability.

The initiative also integrates male allyship through HeForShe engagement, reinforcing gender inclusion as a national development imperative.

The rally concluded with a consolidated mandate for coordinated action, positioning Nigerian women as a structured force for policy influence, inclusive growth, and long-term national transformation.
