A woman advocacy Group, the National Association of Women Entrepreneur NAWE has called for equal opportunities in the social, economic and political spheres in the country.

The group also wants an end to social stereotypes associated with the female gender.

National President of the Association Mrs. Vivian Ndanusa made the call at a Press conference in Abuja, Nigeria.

The Association also called for “more government interventions directed at the girl child”.

According to Mrs. Ndanusa, the National Association of Women Entrepreneurs chooses to “challenge the incessant rights abuse and marginalization of women in the social, political and cultural spheres within the Nigerian Society”.

She stressed that the Organisation is also challenging the prevailing negative perceptions and unequal opportunities of the female gender in society.

“There should be strong partnerships between the civil society to end gender-based violence against women and girls,” Mrs. Ndanusa maintained.

The NAWE President also advocated for the government’s assistance in the establishment of  “women shareholders multipurpose cooperatives in both urban and rural settings”.

She said such cooperatives “could serve as channels for the dissemination of information and for the provision of such assistance in dealing with various health challenges prevalent in the society”.

The call was also made for a special gender-sensitive monitoring system that should be developed and adopted by central and commercial banks to ensure that loans and cash transfers target and reach vulnerable women. Such a system according to her, “could also guarantee that such cash transfers do not fall into the hands of men and the less needy”.
