Africa Set for ITTF World Hopes Week & Challenge 2026

Six of Africa’s brightest young table tennis talents have earned places at the prestigious ITTF World Hopes Week & Challenge 2026, scheduled to take place from October 12th – 18th in Sheffield, United Kingdom.

The selected players are among the 36 outstanding Under-12 athletes from across the world who will participate in the elite talent development programme.

Widely regarded as one of the most important pathways for nurturing future table tennis stars, the ITTF World Hopes Week & Challenge is jointly organised by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) and Table Tennis England.

The event marks the culmination of the year-long Continental Hopes Programme, bringing together the most promising young players from Africa, Europe, Asia, the Americas and Oceania.

Africa’s representatives secured their places following impressive performances at the Africa Hopes Week and Challenge held earlier this year in Accra, Ghana.

Six of Africa's brightest young table tennis talents will feature at the prestigious ITTF World Hopes Week & Challenge 2026.

The continent will be represented by players from Nigeria, Egypt, Tunisia and Uganda, all of whom distinguished themselves during the continental competition.

Nigeria will be represented by Umar Ayoola and Elizabeth Emelike, while Egypt’s hopes rest on Zeina Farouk and Adam Lashin. Tunisia’s Ritej Charif and Uganda’s Joseph Sebatindira complete the African contingent heading to Sheffield.

The six African starlets will join talented youngsters from 22 other nations at the English Institute of Sport for a week of intensive training and competition.

According to the ITTF, players were selected through their respective Continental Hopes programmes, with only the most outstanding performers earning qualification for the global event.

The 2026 edition features representatives from 26 Member Associations, underlining the worldwide reach of the Hopes Programme and its commitment to identifying and developing future champions.

Throughout the week, participants will benefit from high-level technical training under the guidance of elite international coaches while also competing in the Challenge tournament.

However, assessment will extend beyond match results, with players evaluated on technical skills, training attitude and overall potential for long-term development.

The best performers will earn selection to the prestigious Hopes Team, opening a fast-track route into the ITTF High Performance pathway.

The international line-up also includes rising talents from Australia, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Colombia, England, Spain, Finland, France, Guyana, India, Ireland, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Paraguay, Peru, Qatar, Romania, Thailand, Uzbekistan and Venezuela.

Beyond the action on the table, the ITTF World Hopes Week & Challenge 2026 will offer opportunities for cultural exchange, learning and personal growth.

For the young African participants, the event represents a significant milestone in their development and a chance to showcase the continent’s growing strength and potential in youth table tennis on the global stage.
