The Anambra State AIDS Control Agency (ANSACA) has charged the 2026 Integrated Biological and Behavioura Surveillance Survey (iBBSS) team to ensure accurate data collection and strict adherence to approved protocols.
The Executive Director of ANSACA, Dr Nkem Okeke, gave the charge while briefing members of the survey team in Awka, according to a statement issued by the agency’s Public Relations Officer.
Okeke said reliable data from the exercise would be crucial to understanding HIV-related behaviours and risks and developing evidence-based interventions for key populations in Anambra State.

He urged the team to strictly follow approved iBBSS procedures, particularly during data collection and the collection of biological samples at designated and mapped hotspots.
The ANSACA executive director also stressed the need for effective teamwork and directed members to promptly report operational challenges that could affect the quality or outcome of the exercise.
He assured the team of the agency’s support, noting that the Anambra State Government remained committed to providing the necessary assistance for the successful implementation of the survey.
The iBBSS combines behavioural and biological surveillance to generate data on behaviours associated with HIV risk, alongside biological information obtained through sample collection from identified populations and locations.
Okeke commended the West African Centre for Public Health and Development (WACPHD), the project managers, for supporting the survey in Anambra and contributing to efforts to ensure that health interventions are measurable and achieve meaningful impact among key populations.
He expressed confidence that accurate data, effective teamwork and adherence to established protocols would enable the 2026 exercise to generate evidence capable of strengthening HIV prevention and response efforts in the state.
