AGF Fagbemi Assures Investors of Stronger Legal Protection

By Charles Ogba, Abuja

Nigeria’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, has assured local and foreign investors of legal protection for their business interests under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Fagbemi gave the assurance at a dinner he hosted for Nigeria’s delegation to the International Bar Association 2026 Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The event brought together the Minister of State for Works, Bello Musa Goronyo, lawyers, diplomats, Nigerians living in Denmark and neighbouring Sweden, and their foreign friends.

Fagbemi said the Tinubu administration remained committed to strengthening Nigeria’s legal and economic environment to boost investor confidence.

“The administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains committed to strengthening the rule of law, improving access to justice, modernising the administration of justice, strengthening prosecution and law-enforcement institutions, promoting respect for human rights, and creating a legal environment in which citizens and investors can have confidence,” he said.

The Attorney General urged lawyers and other Nigerians to support government efforts to build a stronger Nigeria.

He noted that effective laws and institutions were essential to creating confidence among investors and protecting legitimate business interests.

The government’s focus on the rule of law also seeks to improve access to justice and strengthen institutions responsible for prosecution and law enforcement.

Goronyo described Fagbemi as a courageous public official and urged participants to support what he called President Tinubu’s reform efforts.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s ambassador to Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Norway, Lola Akande, said strong, independent and credible legal institutions were vital to investor confidence.

She said such institutions also strengthen public trust and Nigeria’s relationships with international partners.

“That is why the work we do here matters. It matters to the individual whose rights require protection. It matters to the investor seeking confidence and predictability. It matters to businesses operating across borders,” Akande said.

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Yusuf Ali, commended Fagbemi on behalf of the Nigerian delegation.

Ali stated that the Attorney General had established precedents through legal victories for Nigeria.

He also commended Fagbemi for consecutively hosting the gathering since assuming office.

The meeting in Copenhagen brought together Nigerian government officials, legal professionals and members of the Nigerian community as the International Bar Association 2026 Conference continues.
