The Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), in the Nigerian Federal Capital Territory administration, FCTA, Abdullahi Candido and other council officials, received first doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine in the Council Secretariat.

The Chairman while calling on all members of his cabinet and staff of the Council to key into vaccination exercise also urged residents of the Council to follow suit in order to stay safe from the Coronavirus pandemic.

“I want to direct all my cabinet members, all head of departments and all staff of the area council to key into this vaccination… I will also direct the director of adminstration to immediately write to our graded chiefs, district and village heads to ensure vaccination of their lesser chiefs in their localities across the twelve wards in the area council.

“I will ask the department of health with effect from tommorow, to establish centres in these four palaces and conduct this vaccination so that our people can get this vaccine,” he said.

The AMAC Director of Primary Healthcare, Dr Module Adeyinka explained that the vaccine is an additional safety measure and should not replace the use of mask, social distancing and use of hand sanitizers.

While calling on the residents to get vaccinated, Dr Adeyinka assured them that the vaccine is safe and does not have any negative effect on the people.
