Anambra 2021: INEC, ECES hold Election Monitoring, Support Centre Workshop

As the November 6th Anambra State Governorship Election draws nearer, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has taken strategic steps to avoid mistakes in the election process.

The commission in collaboration with the European Centre For Electoral Support ECES, took the steps by organising INEC Anambra State Election Monitoring And Support Centre Amber Zone Implementer’s Workshop in Nibo, Awka South council area..

The workshop attracted not less than 80 participants from the national, state and local levels of the commission.

In his remarks, the Anambra state resident Commissioner, Dr. Nkwachukwu Orji, said that the workshop was to ensure that everything that needed to be on the ground for the election are put in place.

He noted that INEC has developed a system to monitor all activities, and ensure that all programmes that have been identified and planned are implemented.

Dr. Orji also revealed that INEC will mobilise over twenty-five thousand ad-hoc staff for the five thousand,seven hundred and twenty polling units in Anambra State.

The Project Coordinator, ECES, Mr. Hamza Fassi-Fihri, said they are here to give their support to INEC to ensure that the Anambra State Governorship Election is conducted in a credible manner.

He disclosed that ECES is a European support for democratic governance in Nigeria and they equally collaborate with INEC to build capacity in the delivery of elections.

In his address, the special Adviser to INEC Chairman, Election Monitoring And Support Centre, EMSC, Prof Mohammed Kuna, explained the workshop is to assess the state of readiness of the commission and expressed confidence that the November 6th election will be better than all the previous election conducted in Anambra State.

Contributing the Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman, Mr. Rotimi Oyekanmi, noted that the workshop is intended for all the electoral officers and all those involved in the execution of the EMCS platform to put them on alert to ensure that they do not disappoint Nigerians in the election.
