Anambra APC Sets Up Reconciliation Committee, Ratifies Expulsions

By Chinwe Onuigbo, Awka

The Anambra State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has constituted a five-member reconciliation committee to address post-primary grievances and strengthen internal cohesion ahead of the 2027 general election.

The committee, chaired by Chief Obi Onwuachu, was inaugurated during an expanded stakeholders’ meeting held on Friday at the party’s state secretariat in Awka, the state capital.

Other members are Mike Ejezie, a former chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), Chief Amechi Chinweze, Chief Chris Akaghalu and Mrs. Tina Aronu.

The decision formed part of resolutions reached at the meeting presided over by the APC State Chairman, Senator Emma Anosike, who said the committee was tasked with reconciling aggrieved members and fostering unity within the party.

The stakeholders also ratified the expulsion of members accused of violating the party’s constitution by instituting legal action against the APC.

Party leaders maintained that the affected individuals remain expelled in line with constitutional provisions and are not recognised as participants in the party’s recent primaries.

The party further ratified the emergence of its senatorial candidates for the 2027 general election in Anambra State.

Mrs. Chibuogwu Benson-Oraelosi was confirmed as the candidate for Anambra South Senatorial District, Dr Ngozi Kene-Chiedu for Anambra Central, and Chief Kingsley Nnalue for Anambra North.

Addressing stakeholders, Senator Anosike urged party members to remain united and committed to strengthening the APC’s grassroots structures, stressing that ward officials would play a central role in mobilising support ahead of future elections.

He expressed confidence in the party’s prospects in Anambra State and reiterated the APC’s determination to work towards securing victory for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

According to him, all mobilisation efforts must be coordinated through ward structures, which he described as the foundation of the party’s electoral success.

Meanwhile, the APC criticised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over reports circulating on social media regarding the outcome of the party’s primaries and the identity of its candidates.

Speaking after the stakeholders’ meeting, the State Legal Adviser, Barrister Cyprian Udenwa, said INEC’s constitutional role is limited to monitoring party primaries and does not extend to determining or declaring candidates for political parties.

He described reports allegedly linking the electoral commission to the announcement of APC candidates as misleading, insisting that the nomination of candidates remains an internal affair of political parties as provided by law and affirmed by court judgments.
