By Chinwe Onuigbo, Awka

The Anambra State House of Assembly has confirmed 16 commissioner nominees submitted by Governor Chukwuma Soludo, clearing the way for the reconstitution of the state executive council as the administration pushes ahead with its development agenda.

The confirmation followed the adoption of a report presented during plenary in Awka by the House Committee on Screening and Electoral Matters after a two-day screening exercise.

Presenting the report, Deputy Speaker and committee chairman, Chukwuma Okoye, said the nominees were found competent, qualified and fit to serve in the cabinet.

The confirmed commissioners and their portfolios are: Ben Chuks Odoemena (Agriculture), Chukwukadibia Okoye (Budget and Economic Planning), Udoji Amedu (Culture, Entertainment and Tourism), Ekene Ogugua (Education), Clem Aguiyi (Environment), Afam Obidike (Health), Law Mefor (Information and Value Reorientation) and Offornze Amucheazi, SAN (Lands).

Others are; Vin Ezeaka (Local Government and Community Affairs), Charles Ofoegbu (Petroleum and Mineral Resources), Chijioke Oseloka Ojukwu (Physical Planning and Urban Development), Casmir Chinenye Agummadu (Power), Okey Ezeobi (Works and Infrastructure), Eddy Ibuzo (Transport), Esther Onyekesi (Women Affairs and Social Development), and Patrick Agha (Youth Development and Sports).

Speaker of the House, Somtochukwu Udeze, urged the newly confirmed commissioners to align with the Soludo administration’s “Solution Agenda” by prioritising development initiatives and improving living conditions across the state.

He described the confirmation process as “more than a constitutional routine,” saying it marked “the beginning of a new era” focused on leadership, accountability and service delivery.

Udeze also advised the commissioners to maintain prudence in office, reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks and ensure accessibility in governance.

Speaking on behalf of the appointees, the Commissioner for Information and Value Reorientation, Law Mefor, thanked the lawmakers for what he described as a transparent and thorough screening process and expressed gratitude to Governor Soludo for the confidence reposed in them.

He pledged that the commissioners would work to justify the trust placed in them and contribute meaningfully to the state’s development.

Second Batch

Meanwhile, the Assembly also received a second batch of nominees from Governor Soludo for further screening and confirmation.

They include Henry Arinze as Commissioner-designate for Housing, Nonso Chukwuma Ebonwu as Commissioner-designate for Commerce, and Augustine Uwaeme as Executive Secretary of the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA).

The Speaker subsequently referred the new nominees to the House Committee on Screening and Electoral Matters for legislative consideration.
