The Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo has called for stronger collaboration between government, private investors and local communities to accelerate infrastructure development across Nigeria, as subnational governments adopt alternative funding models to bridge infrastructure gaps.
He made the call during the commissioning of a 1.7-kilometre road in Achalla, Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State, southeastern Nigeria, describing the project as a demonstration of the state’s Private-Public-Community Partnership (PPCP) model.
The road was constructed and fully funded by a private citizen, Emma Nwakanma, who said the project was carried out in response to the governor’s call for citizens to contribute to the development of their communities.
Nwakanma said “the initiative was inspired by the administration’s emphasis on grassroots development and community responsibility,” stressing that the road would improve access and benefit residents of Achalla and surrounding areas.

Governor Soludo commended the donor’s intervention, saying “it reflected the growing importance of citizen participation in public development and infrastructure delivery.”

He noted that a significant proportion of Nigeria’s wealth remains in private hands, stressing that development could be accelerated when individuals and communities invest directly in projects that serve public needs.
According to him, the PPCP framework is designed to institutionalise such partnerships across infrastructure, education and social services.

The Governor urged Nigerians not to rely solely on government, saying even small contributions toward community projects could collectively produce significant impact.
He also disclosed that the Anambra State Government would intervene in leadership disputes within the Achalla community to ensure peace and sustained development.
“Development thrives in an atmosphere of peace and cooperation,” he said, adding that stability remains essential for investment and long-term growth.
The newly commissioned road is expected to improve transportation, ease movement and support economic activities in Achalla and neighbouring communities.
Anambra State, one of Nigeria’s major economic hubs, has in recent years increased investments in road infrastructure, urban renewal, security and digital transformation as part of broader efforts to strengthen growth and attract investment.
