The Anambra State Government says it is exploring the establishment of a modular refinery as part of plans to expand gas processing and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) supply in the state.
The Commissioner for Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Professor Charles Ofoegbu, said this in Awka while receiving members of the Anambra State chapter of the National Association of LPG Marketers (NALPGAM).
Ofoegbu said the proposed project was part of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s efforts to sanitise the petroleum and gas sector, improve energy supply and create opportunities for private-sector investment.

He encouraged investors interested in establishing gas processing plants in the state to take advantage of the emerging opportunities, assuring them that the government was prepared to facilitate access to gas supplies for such investments.
The commissioner said the state’s approach was intended to strengthen the petroleum sector while creating a more organised environment for businesses and consumers.
He also welcomed the association’s proposal to organise a workshop on LPG safety and operations, saying such engagements were important for addressing industry challenges and improving public awareness.
Earlier, the NALPGAM state chairman, Dr Daniel Madueke, said the association sought the commissioner’s approval to organise the safety workshop to educate LPG operators and members of the public on the handling and use of cooking gas.

Madueke said the proposed workshop would cover the composition of LPG, the different pressure levels under which it operates and measures for preventing domestic gas-related accidents.
He congratulated Ofoegbu on his appointment as commissioner and expressed the association’s readiness to work with the ministry to promote safety and responsible LPG operations in the state.
The meeting comes amid growing national efforts to expand domestic gas utilisation and improve access to cleaner cooking fuels, while strengthening safety standards across Nigeria’s LPG value chain.
