APC, Northern Group Partner to Boost 2027 Votes

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has pledged to work with the Arewa for Asiwaju (A4A) group to mobilise more voters across northern Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections.

APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, gave the assurance when leaders of the A4A group, led by former Kano State Governor, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, visited him at the Party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

Professor Yilwatda said the party would integrate the group’s structures into its election planning to strengthen mobilisation and improve its performance in presidential, National Assembly, governorship and state assembly elections.

He commended the group for bringing together experienced political leaders and young people from different backgrounds, describing its composition as inclusive and representative of northern Nigeria.

The APC chairman said the group could help address the perception that the Tinubu administration had neglected the North by highlighting projects and programmes being implemented in the region.

He cited major road projects, the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) gas pipeline and student loan opportunities as examples of initiatives he said would benefit northern communities.

According to him, road projects under construction or procurement in northern Nigeria cover more than 3,000 kilometres.

Yilwatda also urged northern stakeholders to take advantage of government policies and programmes to improve education, expand economic opportunities and support development in the region.

He said the party would work with A4A to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu and APC candidates in the 2027 elections.

Earlier, Senator Shekarau said A4A was established to mobilise voters across the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

He explained that the group had analysed previous election results to identify areas of weakness, low voter turnout and voter apathy, adding that it would work to address the challenges.

Senator Shekarau said the initiative would complement the efforts of the APC, the Presidential Campaign Council, state governors and other political stakeholders rather than operate independently of existing party structures.

He added that the group had established coordinators across states and other levels to strengthen grassroots mobilisation and promote awareness of the Tinubu administration’s achievements in the North.

The former governor also invited Prof. Yilwatda to the commissioning of the group’s secretariat scheduled for Saturday, October 17th, 2026, adding that Vice-President Kashim Shettima had accepted the invitation.

Deputy Chairman of the group’s Board of Trustees and former Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong, described A4A as a platform for experienced political leaders to support the APC’s electoral efforts.
