APC Senate Primary Committee Announces Candidates in Gombe

By Rebecca Mu’azu, Gombe

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has officially announced the name of the three candidates who emerged as the party’s flagbearers for the 2027 Senatorial election.

The Chairman of the APC Senatorial and House of Representatives Primary Election Committee, Mr. Labiru Musa Kafur, announced the incumbent Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, as the candidate for Gombe North Senatorial District, following Monday’s direct primary elections conducted across the state.

Addressing journalists at a press briefing in Gombe, Mr. Kafur described the primary election as “remarkably peaceful, orderly, and harmonious”.

He confirmed that the primaries took place on Monday, May 18, 2026, in strict compliance with the National Working Committee’s directive for a direct primary process, which allowed card-carrying party members to vote directly at the ward level.

Mr. Labiru also announced DCP Mohammed Ahmed, Rtd, as the winner of the Senate Primary Election for the Gombe Central Senatorial District, while Gombe South Senatorial District had Mr. Jerry Joseph Damara emerging as the Senate flagbear.

According to Mr. Kafur, accreditation began at 8:00 AM local time across designated wards, with eligibility strictly tied to the presentation of a valid APC membership card, a measure, he said, that eliminated external infiltration and protected the sanctity of the ballot.

Mr. Kafur stressed that the committee stands fully by the decentralised field declarations.

According to him, “Having satisfied all necessary requirements and scored the highest number of valid votes cast in their respective districts, these winners were rightfully declared on the field immediately after collation.”

He extended the committee’s gratitude to Governor Yahaya, the state party leadership and security agencies for ensuring what he called a “transparent, highly credible and world-class democratic exercise.”
