The African Public Relations Association (APRA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Namibian Press Agency (NAMPA), ahead of the 2026 Effective Communicators Conference (ECC) scheduled to hold in Namibia.
The agreement follows an earlier invitation by NAMPA for APRA to co-host the conference, billed for July 14–17, 2026, at The Dome in Swakopmund, Namibia’s coastal resort city.
The conference, themed “Communication Reconsidered: A Driving Force for Constant Progress,” is co-organised by Namibia’s Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) under the leadership of Minister Emma Theofelus
The Minister had in Windhoek unveiled activities leading to the conference following the MoU signing between NAMPA and APRA.
The ECC is expected to bring together leading voices in public relations, journalism, marketing, government communication, and digital media across Africa and beyond to re-examine how the continent tells its stories and shapes development outcomes.
APRA said ‘the initiative aligns with its vision of strengthening communication as a key driver of development, while promoting professional standards, knowledge sharing, and capacity building across the continent.”
APRA President, Mr. Arik Karani represented by the Secretary General, Dr. Omoniyi Ibietan, described the collaboration as ‘a milestone in advancing ethical, evidence-based and responsible communication across Africa.’
The ECC 2026 will feature six strategic forums, including the Heads of State and Diplomatic Forum, Captains of Industry Forum, Editors and Journalists Forum, Government Communicators Forum, Strategic Communications and Public Relations Forum, and the Digital Storytelling Forum.
According to him, “the partnership reflects a shared commitment to strengthening trust, stability, and prosperity through effective communication.”
“We are committed to telling the African story through cooperative, evidence-based, ethical and responsible communication that enhances understanding and development across the continent,” Karani said.
The conference is expected to attract more than 1,000 participants and will also host APRA’s 2026 Annual General Meeting ahead of its 37th Annual Conference scheduled for Abuja in November during the World Public Relations Forum.
