Launching the year 2023 farming season, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), distributed agro-chemical products and farm inputs to 120 selected farmers across the 12 existing political wards in the area council.

The donation was presented by Mr Christopher Maikalangu, Chairman, AMAC to the beneficiaries during the inauguration of the 2023 farming season tagged “Agricultural Revolution Starts Now”.

Reports gathered that ten farmers, each drawn from the 12 wards in the area council, went home with a sack of spraying machines, assorted herbicides and other agricultural inputs .

Also, two agricultural extension agents smiled home with brand new motorcycles each to aid their movement in distribution of agricultural products in their communities.

According to Maikalangu, the donation is part of his administration’s commitment towards fulfilling its campaign promises of reducing economic hardship, biting harder on the residents.

He called on the beneficiaries to resist the temptation of selling the products, while assuring them that the exercise would be a continuous one.

“It is necessary to note that every farmer is qualified but for financial constraints, we shall continue to reach out to as many farmers as possible in the next batches of our farmer-empowerment schemes,” he said.

“I wish to advise you never to contemplate on selling them for financial gains but to make use of the implements so as to achieve the desired result,” he said.

On his part, Mr Emmanuel Danladi, Sarkin Noma, AMAC, appreciated the chairman for the donation, while assuring of the farmers determination to make farm produce available in the council.

Similarly, Mr Solomon Thomas, an extension agent with AMAC and a beneficiary of a motorcycle, lauded the chairman for the gesture.

“I am very happy for this donation because one of the challenges our farmers have been having is availability of farm inputs and another challenge we have been facing is transportation.

“With this, we will be able to reach out to the farmers with new farming innovations and to carry out our other duties effectively,” he said.
