Army Centre Launches Leadership Programme On AI, Security

Nokai Origin, Abuja

The Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC), in collaboration with King’s College London’s African Leadership Centre, has launched Phase Two of its Senior Executive Leadership Programme, focusing on adaptive leadership, artificial intelligence and national security.

The programme was inaugurated on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre in Abuja by its Director-General, Major General James Myam.

Myam said the biannual collaborative programme was designed to expose senior military leaders and key national stakeholders to contemporary geostrategic developments while strengthening their adaptive leadership capabilities in response to global changes.

He explained that while Phase One examined shifting global norms and geopolitical competition in Africa, the current phase focused on “Adaptive Leadership and National Security in Nigeria: Coping with Artificial Intelligence and Social Vulnerabilities in an Era of Changing Global Norms and Geopolitical Competition.”

The Director-General urged participants to draw on their operational experiences and engage actively with resource persons to understand the complex vulnerabilities and strategic risks associated with rapid technological developments and emerging global security dynamics.

Myam also expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff and Chairman of the NARC Board of Trustees, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for his strategic direction, institutional guidance and support for the Centre’s capacity-building initiatives.

The team leader from King’s College London, Professor Randolph Charles Kent, said the global environment was undergoing unprecedented and exponential changes, with Nigeria at the centre of complex systemic shifts.

Kent explained that the collaboration, which marked the eighth joint academic event between NARC and King’s College London, sought to equip senior leaders to address emerging challenges that could not be resolved through conventional approaches alone.

He said the programme would promote knowledge-driven perspectives and adaptive leadership to help participants respond to evolving national and global security challenges.

The high-level academic engagement brought together senior officers of the Nigerian Armed Forces, security agencies, academic researchers and institutional stakeholders to strengthen national security planning and operational resilience against emerging technological threats.
