The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Auwalu Mahmuda, has charged troops of 32 Artillery Brigade to sustain pressure on criminal elements and deny them freedom of action across the formation’s Area of Responsibility.
Mahmuda gave the charge on September 4, 2026, during his maiden operational visit to Owena Cantonment, Akure, Ondo State, where he reviewed the security situation within the Brigade’s area and measures being taken by troops to address them.
The Acting Deputy Director, 2 Division Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, said the GOC had been closely monitoring the security situation within the Brigade’s Area of Responsibility and was abreast of the efforts being made by troops to tackle the challenges.
Mahmuda noted that the security challenges confronting the Brigade were similar to those affecting other formations but said available reports indicated that the troops were performing well.
He urged them to sustain an aggressive operational posture and remain focused as they confront contemporary security threats.
The GOC also assured the troops that the Nigerian Army, under the leadership of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, remained committed to their welfare in line with the “Soldier First Concept.”
He cited the recent salary increment as further recognition of the sacrifices and contributions of military personnel to national security and humanity.
Mahmuda, however, reminded the troops that increased institutional support also came with greater expectations, urging them to reciprocate the efforts of the Nigerian Army and the President and Commander-in-Chief by maintaining the standards expected of professional soldiers.
He charged the troops to remain proud professionals, improve their operational performance and conduct themselves in ways that would bring credit to the Nigerian Army and the nation.
Earlier, the Commander, 32 Artillery Brigade, Brigadier General Jibrin Garba, welcomed the GOC and his entourage to the Brigade and briefed him on the formation’s operational disposition and other matters under his command.
