The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Auwalu Mahmuda, has urged troops deployed around the Old Oyo National Park and adjoining areas of Oyo State to maintain vigilance, discipline and an aggressive posture while defending their respective Areas of Responsibility.
Mahmuda gave the charge during an operational tour of troop locations along the Igbeti–Igboho–Sepetari Road in Olorunsogo Local Government Area, the headquarters of 169 Motorcycle Battalion, Ikoyi-Ile, and the Abaja Response Area in Oriire Local Government Area.
The Acting Deputy Director, 2 Division Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, disclosed this in a statement, explaining that the visit formed part of the GOC’s ongoing assessment of troop deployments and security conditions across the division’s area of responsibility.
At the Igbeti–Igboho–Sepetari Road, Mahmuda was received and briefed on the security situation by the Commanding Officer, 81 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Chiemezie Innocent Asogwa.
At the headquarters of 169 Motorcycle Battalion and the Abaja Response Area, he was received by the Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Waziri Gadzama Ayuba, who conducted him around the deployment areas and briefed him on the battalion’s operational disposition.
The GOC commended the troops for their efforts in defending their Areas of Responsibility and urged them to remain alert and committed to their duties.
He also charged the troops to maintain discipline and uphold the core values of the Nigerian Army, describing these as essential elements of military professionalism.
“You must work as a team and defend your locality,” Mahmuda told the troops.
The operational tour underscores the division’s emphasis on maintaining situational awareness across its deployment areas and ensuring that personnel remain prepared to respond to emerging security concerns.
