The Author of People, Nature and Environment: Pathways to Sustainable Development, Abba Maigida, PhD, has called for stronger environmental protection, warning that failure to address environmental degradation could undermine the wellbeing of future generations.
Maigida made the call at the launch of his book, where he said the inspiration for the publication came from growing environmental challenges and the need to promote sustainable development.

He said extensive research and visits to different environments informed the book, which seeks to draw attention to the need to restore and protect the environment.

The author cited increasing flooding in Abuja as an example of changing environmental conditions, stressing the need for urgent action to safeguard the environment and secure a sustainable future.
“Humanity will judge us if we look at what is happening and we keep quiet,” Maigida said.
He urged professionals and other stakeholders to take responsibility for addressing environmental challenges.
He noted that environmental protection was not merely about publishing a book but about creating lasting impact and ensuring that the environment remained safe and healthy for future generations.
Maigida, who said his family supported him throughout the writing process, described the publication as a contribution to future prosperity.
He also urged Nigerians to regard the environment as a shared heritage that must be protected, irrespective of political differences.
“We have no other land than Nigeria. We have to safeguard it for future generations,” he said.
Speaking at the event, the chairman of the launch, retired General Alwali Kazir, said people, nature and the environment were interconnected, explaining that changes in one affected the others.
He urged Nigerians to take personal responsibility for protecting the environment by keeping their surroundings clean, preventing damage to the land and maintaining a healthy environment.
The book highlights the relationship between people and their natural surroundings, with a focus on environmental responsibility and sustainable development.
