Bauchi state Supports Farmers with Improved seedlings

No fewer than 2,000 Bauchi State farmers have been selected to benefit from the Crop Demonstration Packages designated for local farmers.

The scheme is aimed at facilitating farmers into the cultivation of improved maize, rice, soybean, or millet in a quarter of a hectare of land.

Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed disclosed this during the flagging off of the 2021 Crop Demonstration Packages over the weekend.

The governor at the event which was held at BSADP headquarters in Bauchi, stated that his administration had placed a premium on agriculture not only as a means of food production, but for economic empowerment.

Mohammed revealed that 2,000 livestock farmers will benefit from the newly introduced Napier Grass cuttings, while twenty communities will benefit from the local poultry upgrading using noiler cocks.

He noted that ninety communities will benefit from the small ruminant breeding program packages which include, seeds, fertiliser, herbicides, insecticides, noiler cocks, napier grass cuttings among others.

“It may interest you to know that our administration has provided an enabling environment for the BSADP to discharge its mandate of linking with Agricultural Research Institutions within and outside the country to search for new technologies for transfer to the farmers in the state.

“I want to appreciate all the research institutions and non-governmental organizations that are working in partnership with Bauchi State Government through the BSADP, towards the realization of our noble objective.

“We have our agricultural policy which we would implement to achieve food security, poverty reduction, job creation and income generation through the value chain process,” Mohammed said.

The governor also unveiled the local poultry upgrading initiative, small ruminants breeding program and livestock feed alternative using Napier Grass.

In addition, he launched the Tree Crop Seedlings Program where farmers in the 20 local government areas of the state would benefit from the newly improved crops varieties.
