A special adviser to Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia, Mathias Agbo Omikpa, says the governor remains focused on service delivery and development despite growing political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Omikpa, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development and Community Mobilisation, stated this in an interview with Voice of Nigeria in Abuja, saying the administration was prioritising the needs and expectations of the people.
He described himself as an objective person who would acknowledge areas where the government was falling short, adding that the governor was aware of his position.
“I’m a very objective person. Where we are lacking and where we are not performing, I would say it, and the governor knows this. I don’t need to self-appraise, but just say the truth as it is,” he said.
Omikpa said Governor Alia had continued to concentrate on governance and development, while grassroots politicians and other supporters were increasingly preparing for the next electoral cycle.
“My governor tries not to focus on politics but rather focuses on still delivering service for governance for the period,” he said.

He added that the governor’s priority remained addressing the yearnings of residents through development initiatives.
Public Assessment of Performance
On the 2027 elections, Omikpa said supporters of the administration were preparing for the political contest and expressed confidence that the governor could secure another term.
He urged residents to assess the administration based on its record while encouraging the media to independently investigate claims about government achievements.

“The report cards are there for everyone to see, and based on the report card, I’m very, very sure the people would vote Governor Hyacinth Alia back, because we’ve never had it so good,” he said.
The Special Adviser acknowledged that political disagreements and competing claims were inevitable as the election approaches, but urged journalists to verify statements made by public officials.
“Let the media, the role the media plays as the fourth realm of the estate, play it! They should dig down. They should come see. If I say we’ve done so and so things, come check it up, because it’s the truth!” Omikpa said.
He maintained that the administration should be judged by its performance and the progress it had made towards addressing the state’s development needs.
Performance-Based Electoral Assessment
Omikpa reiterated his support for Governor Alia’s re-election, urging Benue residents to consider the administration’s record and development plans when making their electoral choices.
“So for politics, yes, we are gearing up, it’s the season, and Benue people should re-elect His Excellency Governor Hyacinth Alia back based on his performance and based on where he’s trying to take Benue to,” he said.
His comments come as political stakeholders begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections, with governance, public accountability and service delivery expected to feature prominently in debates about the state’s leadership.
The governor’s performance claims and the administration’s record remain matters for independent scrutiny, while the final decision on the state’s leadership rests with Benue voters.
