Nigerian Grammy-winning music star Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu best known as Burna Boy and Dangote Group President, Aliko Dangote, have been named among the 2025 “100 Most Notable Peace Icons in Africa.”
The announcement was made during the ‘Unveiling News Conference’ held on Wednesday in Abuja, Nigeria’s Capital.
The recognition celebrates Africans who have made outstanding contributions to peacebuilding globally.
Other notable Nigerians on the list include Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of COZA Global, philanthropist Tony Elumelu, billionaire Femi Otedola, football star Victor Osimhen, WTO Director-General Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and Governors Umar Namadi (Jigawa) and Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos). Also listed are Zainab Nasir-Idris and Huriyya Dauda-Lawal, wives of Kebbi and Zamfara State Governors respectively; media mogul Nduka Obaigbena; Access Holdings Chair Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede; and Dr Nimi Briggs, CEO, NIMPAT Group.
Others include Dr Chuka Nwachukwu of Amanda Group, Property Wealth Corporation’s Daniel Moses, Edo Deputy Governor Rt Hon Dennis Idahosa, and Prof Haruna Musa, Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Jigawa.
The Project Director Africa for the 100 Peace Icons, Amb. Kingsley Amafibe, , said the honorees were selected for their “consistent commitment to humanitarian initiatives, positive influence on communities, and youth empowerment.”
“It is with immense excitement that we announce the esteemed list titled ‘100 Most Notable Peace Icons Africa 2025’,” Amafibe stated.
“This initiative stands as a testament to our commitment to acknowledging and applauding remarkable individuals and the key roles they play in nurturing peace, harmony, and positive change on the African continent.”
He added, “These individuals have showcased unwavering resilience and commitment to nurturing new leaders, fueling economic growth, and uplifting positive change. Their stories are a tribute to perseverance and the cherished values of Africa—unity, harmony, and progress.”
The recipients will be formally honoured at the ‘100 Most Notable Africans Leadership and Business Summit’ scheduled for July 4–6 in Kigali, Rwanda. Themed “Leadership Frameworks for Governance, Business Growth, Investment Opportunities and Sustainable Development in Africa,” the event will unite policymakers, entrepreneurs, and experts to foster inclusive economic dialogue.
Amafibe emphasised that the summit aims to build investor confidence through transparent governance, cross-border cooperation, and sustainable policy development in key sectors such as education, agriculture, and health.
Other continental recipients include Egyptian football star Mohamed Salah, Moroccan intellectuals Dr Abdelhak Najib and Dr Imane Kendili, Zimbabwe’s Finance Minister Prof Mthuli Ncube, and Rwanda’s Karame Group CEO, Munyakazi Sadate.
