Veteran Yoruba actor and screenwriter Taiwo Hassan, widely known as Ogogo, has passed away at age 66 after a long fight with stage-four cancer.
Hassan, who had a career spanning more than four decades, featured in over 300 films and became one of the prominent figures in Nigeria’s Yoruba film industry.
He began his acting career in 1981 after working as a mechanic and later left his job with the water corporation in 1994 to pursue acting full-time.
Known for his lively and memorable performances, Hassan also contributed to the growth of the industry through mentoring and theatre arts.
His death marks another loss to Nigeria’s entertainment industry, while his contributions to Yoruba cinema are expected to remain part of the country’s cultural heritage.
