Chad Secures $12.6m Climate Adaptation Grant

Chad has secured $12.625 million in climate funding from the Adaptation Fund to strengthen communities’ resilience to climate change and support sustainable development initiatives.

The funding was approved on Monday, October 26, alongside an allocation for Togo, bringing the total approved under the ECOVERSE project to $25.25 million.

Chadian authorities said “the grant would support efforts to help local communities cope with climate risks and improve their capacity to adapt to the effects of climate change.”

Minister of the Environment, Fisheries and Sustainable Development, Hassan Bakhit Djamous, welcomed the funding, describing it as” progress in mobilising climate finance for the country.”

He commended President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno’s climate diplomacy and acknowledged the stakeholders whose advocacy contributed to securing the funding.

The Minister said the approval represented a step forward for climate change adaptation and sustainable development in Chad.

In March 2026, the Green Climate Fund approved another $25 million in funding for Chad, as the country continues efforts to attract international financing for climate-related challenges.

Chadian authorities have set a short-term target of mobilising $100 million to support measures addressing the impacts of climate change.

The latest grant is expected to strengthen community resilience and support sustainable development as Chad faces growing environmental pressures.
