The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has called on Nigerians to strengthen the country’s institutions, uphold the rule of law and promote unity as the nation marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.
In her goodwill message, the Chief Justice said the anniversary provides an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on the country’s journey, challenges overcome and responsibilities that remain.
She acknowledged periods of difficulty and uncertainty but said Nigerians had demonstrated remarkable resilience, creativity and enduring faith in the promise of the nation.

According to her, the strength of a nation should not be measured solely by economic or material progress, but also by the quality of its institutions, fairness in the administration of laws and the level of public trust.
Justice Kekere-Ekun reaffirmed the Judiciary’s commitment to its constitutional responsibility as a guardian of the rule of law and a critical pillar of Nigeria’s constitutional democracy.
“The Judiciary remains committed to the fair, impartial and timely administration of justice, integrity, independence and humanity,” the CJN explained
The Chief Justice also urged Nigerians to approach their differences with understanding and tolerance while maintaining a shared commitment to the greater good.
She said Nigeria’s diversity should, when guided by mutual respect and a common purpose, remain “a source of strength rather than division.”
Justice Kekere-Ekun further called on Nigerians to remember and honour those whose sacrifices in different areas of national service have helped preserve the country’s freedom and sustain its democracy.
“On behalf of the entire Nigerian Judiciary and on my own behalf, I wish all Nigerians a peaceful and memorable 66th Independence Anniversary,” she said.
The Chief Justice expressed hope that Nigeria would continue to prosper and that the aspirations of its people would find greater fulfilment in the years ahead.
