The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial in Rwanda, highlighting lessons from the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and the importance of national unity, tolerance and conflict prevention.
The Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, said the visit took place on Monday, October 19, 2026, as part of the Chief of Army Staff’s ongoing official working visit to Rwanda.

The memorial, which houses the remains of approximately 250,000 victims of the genocide, stands as a reminder of the devastating consequences of ethnic hatred, religious intolerance, divisive rhetoric and violent extremism.
The Nigerian Army said the visit highlighted the need for Nigerians to rise above ethnic, religious and political differences, reject hate speech and embrace peaceful coexistence, patriotism and collective responsibility for national peace and stability.

The visit also reinforced the importance of responsible leadership, early conflict prevention and sustained civil-military cooperation in preventing violence and strengthening national cohesion.
