Company launches bio-efficient cement bag factory in Ogun state

Lafarge Africa Plc, says it has adopted a climate-responsible approach in the manufacturing of cement bags in order to foster a green economy, as it opens a new manufacturing plant in Ogun state, Southwest Nigeria.

 

The company said it plans to reduce the CO2 emissions both in the bag manufacturing and distribution process and carefully address environmental concerns through recycling.

 

“With an installed capacity of 8.8 million bags a month and 105million to be produced yearly, every aspect of the manufacturing process is planned and executed, bearing in mind the safety of the environment, from the raw materials to the finished products,” the Country Chief Executive Officer, Lafarge Africa Plc, Khaled El Dokani said.

 

He added that the project, which is a partnership with MDV Sacks Ltd. has the potential to improve the livelihood of the host community by creating additional job opportunities, especially for Ewekoro and adjoining communities where the factory is located.

 

He said currently, 254 persons out of which 60% are from the community have been employed in the company and 184 people have been provided indirect jobs through the supply of building materials and logistics, rentals and labour.
