Court dismisses request to amend Charges against former NNPC Director

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, Nigeria’s Capital has dismissed an application made by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, from amending the criminal charge it filled against the former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Mr Andrew Yakubu.

 

Justice Ahmed Mohammed in a ruling held that there was a subsisting judgment delivered on April 24, 2020 in which the Court of Appeal sitting Abuja, ordered Mr. Yakubu to enter defence on counts 3 and 4 of the charge.

 

According to the trial judge, allowing the EFCC to amend counts 3 and 4, of the criminal charge is tantamount to disobeying the subsisting order made by the Court of Appeal on April 24, 2020.

 

Justice Mohammed held that the Judgment of the Court of Appeal on the case was specific and unambiguous.

 

Mr. Andrew Yakubu, a former Group Managing Director of the NNPC is being prosecuted by the EFCC, An anti-graft agency in Nigeria for alleged money laundering amounting to $9.8 million dollars.
